Dove Evolution

Did this shock you? Because it shocked me. This video, created by beauty brand Dove, is already a couple of years old, but it still leaves a big impact on me.

In the beginning of the video, we see a woman without any make-up on. She is average looking, not extremely pretty but I certainly don’t think she is ugly. They put a thick layer of make-up on, but I still can’t really say anything bad about that. Make-up makes everyone prettier and we can all use it, so in my opinion that isn’t really manipulation. The make-up turns the woman into a real model, I think she is stunning.

But then they start retouching her on the computer and I was seriously shocked. Why change someone that’s already so pretty into someone that looks so fake? In the end the model doesn’t even look like herself anymore.

Props to Dove for putting inner beauty out there. They try to show that beauty comes from the inside and that it is wrong that women around the world are pressured to meet up to expectations about their looks that they can never achieve.

No wonder our perception of beauty is distorted…
